Therapeutic Yoga is to alleviate specific problems (physical, mental and spiritual) through Yogic techniques such as Asana (the physical postures), Pranayama (breathing exercises), Meditation, and Diet. According to Yogic view, diseases, disorders and ailments are the result of faulty ways of living, bad habits, lack of discipline in life, lack of sleep, and improper food. The working of the body is classified in six parts: respiratory, circulatory, digestive, genito-urinary, musculoskeletal and nervous system. To strengthen these systems, various Yoga practices systematically help in establishing equanimity of mind in all difficult situations, capacity to fight diseases etc.
Designing Therapeutic Yoga class is different from a traditional Yoga class. In this class a therapeutic teacher knows when to use certain Asanas, Pranayama and when to avoid others. He will often focus on the specific symptoms that trouble the individual and identify methods to help them manage those symptoms. So, the Therapeutic Yoga class is less about teaching all the Yogic techniques and more about helping students to overcome their challenges and gain independence with specific asanas. In addition, the therapist's role is to empower the individuals to take a more active role in their self-care. Happily, most students find that using Yoga as a therapeutic tool has very positive effects, as their whole being comes into a healthier state of balance. Hence, the job of the therapist represents a different focus, a different type of education, and a different skill set.
Yogic Treatment
1.Yogic Treatment helps in two stages. First is when the illness is in the primary stage and secondly, when a sick person is recuperating
2. If a sick person is seriously ill, Yoga healing cannot be applied.
3. Yoga practice results in astonishing help, when carried out combined with medical aid, care in food habits, specific Yogic Techniques, patience and prayers. If all these are simultaneously attended, then only treatment can be beneficial.
Precaution
Asanas are not the substitute to medical care/or medical treatment. By proper self‐control, living a disciplined life, maintaining control of diet, following the advice of a doctor and taking suitable Yogic exercises as well as consuming proper medicine including proper rest, can be total cure.
Always take Therapeutic Yoga Class one on one.
The practice of Yogic postures is not aimed at cure of any specific disease but suggests comprehensive way of life to stay healthy.
